Outfit: 4th of July!
July 6, 2012

I wore this to our friends’ annual 4th of July BBQ. I usually remember too late that I shouldn’t wear a skirt to their house, not on account of the mass number of pervs to be found among their guests – because that usually doesn’t bother me, but due to the lack of steps between the two levels of their deck. I’m usually in heels and a skirt and have to have The Princess step up first so he can stand in front of me so I don’t flash everyone. This year I planned ahead and wore shorts and flats. And of course, stayed indoors the entire time, not setting foot on the deck even once. Ah well.

Outfit: YLF in NYC
February 13, 2012

I wore this to meet some of the absolutely incredible women of YouLookFab. We got together in NYC to snack, shop, and chat. The temperature dropped the night before and the threat of snow was constant, so I put on the flat boots that served me so well during my treks in Toronto earlier this year. The boots aren’t holding up especially well, so I’m going to plan a DIY that incorporates their now battered appearance.
I feel like I’ve been wearing these cross body necklaces constantly, but I love them! And I especially liked it with the black neck tie.

The YLF meet up was pretty wonderful. Angie, the creator and host of YouLookFab, is a delightful woman who from the onset, has set the tone for the website and forum. Beyond cleaning up spam, I don’t think that posts/comments on the site are moderated, they don’t need to be. The tone of the website is friendly and helpful, confident yet humble, which I think acts as a preset filter for participants. I suspect that those who aren”t interested in contributing without arrogance or ego, move on rather quickly to communities with less camaraderie. Every single woman I met at the NYC meetup was absolutely kick ass awesome, and if you’ve been to the forum you understand that this isn’t at all surprising, it’s expected.

Outfit: Urban cowgirl
January 29, 2012

I wore this for the ‘meet the parents’ dinner the other night. These are David Kahn, Brenda Skinny Ankle Pants, in chameleon. They’re thin enough fabric that I’ll be able to wear them throughout spring and early summer. The blouse is loose and drapey, which I’ve ‘twist and tuck’ed in the front. Between the leather look pants, button up shirt, and thigh high cowboy style boots, this had a very cowgirl feeling to me, which was a lot of fun.

I tried out the harness’esque necklace I had been thinking about here, and was pretty pleased with it. The silver was very subtle against the white blouse, so I’ll try a more daring backdrop the next time.

Outfit: July 23rd 2011
July 23, 2011

I wore this to my sister’s surprise birthday party. It rained on and off throughout the day so the temperature was cool enough for long sleeves. I love my ties! I was going to wear a neon one but decided that the party should be a black tie affair.
(the button up shirt did not survive the party – I managed to douse the entire left sleeve with red wine)

Outfit: May 10th 2011
May 10, 2011

I wore this for an evening out with the Princess. His style is much more conservative than mine – he’s comfortable with me showing (a lot) of skin, but has been on the fence when my outfits edge toward something edgy – but he loved this! He thought I looked ‘wicked cool.’
I have those clips in red and black and if I hadn’t banned myself from shopping until my next birthday, I’d surely pick up a few other colours. I use them pretty often to get the fit right on my button up shirts (I hate tailoring those), and they also hold my tie in place pretty well.
