Outfit: African elephants at twilight, YLF Challenge Day 1
April 30, 2012

This is my take on the Inspired By Nature challenge, organised by BellaRemixes and taking place at YouLookFab. The inspiration for Day 1 is African elephants at twilight, Chobe National Park, Botswana by Frans Lanting.

I wound up ignoring the elephants for the most part, and concentrated on the varying shades of mauve in the picture. I went with brown instead of purple – since I don’t own any purple – as my dark hue, and mixed in a few pinks.

The dangling belt was initially going to be my elephant trunk, but I didn’t like it flapping around. Also, I really need to invest in a steamer – I know I’m never going to iron this shirt.

I wore this out for dinner (lobster rolls!) with the Princess. I went for a slightly risqué runway look and didn’t wear anything except a bra under the blazer – I safety pinned the blazer so my bra wouldn’t show but I did enjoy quite the plunging neckline. The belt is too long so I’ve looped it around into a knot.

I wore this out for dinner with my mom. This top was originally a midi length skirt. I never wore the skirt and wound up giving it to my sister, she never wore it and wound up giving it back. I took 6 inches off of it and added it to my tube top collection – though now that it’s shorter I think I’ll finally wear it as a skirt – I’m pretty sure all of my tube tops have been worn as skirts at some point, and vice versa.

I wore this to the Balanchine: Black and White ballet. The David H. Koch is the coldest theatre I go to. It’s freezing in there all year round, which is awkward in warmer weather. I have to walk carrying my jacket and then bundle up when I arrive.
I always look grumpy in pictures I take with the self timer. If someone else is taking the picture I’m all smiles, but if it’s just me, wondering when the camera is going to click … oh well, looking reasonably human will have to suffice.
