Outfit: Water lilies, YLF Challenge Day 2
May 3, 2012

This is Day 2 in the Inspired By Nature challenge, organised by BellaRemixes and taking place at YouLookFab. The inspiration today is Water lilies (Nymphaea nouchali), Okavango Delta, Botswana by Frans Lanting

Normally I’d have thrown on jeans and one of my tees when going to the post office, but my two day old braids keep it casual. lol.

The bracelet ring thing is just a long strand of thick copper wire. I had made a sketch of what I wanted, and managed to follow it reasonably closely, though the bendability of the wire did force some limitations. Also, since it’s just wire and not jewellery grade anything, it does leave a bit of a metallic smell on my hands. Totally worth it though, this thing is awesome.

Rule one of being comfortable in your heels – get your toes in properly. I had taken my shoes off and then put them back on to do the photos, and didn’t bother to place my toes correctly as you can see through the peep toe. Sounds crazy, right? But seriously – especially if you are long of toe - take a minute to get them in right, stick your finger in and put your toes where you want them if you have to – you’ll be glad you did.

Ah errands – would I ever leave the house without you? As usual, I’m wearing a hat to cover my unbrushed hair. My hair is a beast that will not be tamed, however, it will sleep peacefully when covered.

I wore this for an evening out with the Princess. His style is much more conservative than mine – he’s comfortable with me showing (a lot) of skin, but has been on the fence when my outfits edge toward something edgy – but he loved this! He thought I looked ‘wicked cool.’
I have those clips in red and black and if I hadn’t banned myself from shopping until my next birthday, I’d surely pick up a few other colours. I use them pretty often to get the fit right on my button up shirts (I hate tailoring those), and they also hold my tie in place pretty well.

More errands! It was a little early in the year for me to put on such bare sandals, but the shoes I had been wearing the day before destroyed my feet – I was covered in blisters and hobbling and these were the only shoes that wouldn’t aggravate the wounds – yes wounds! The worst part is that I had been wearing flats! I’ve never had a pair of heels do so much damage but a pair of flats nearly crippled me.

I wore this to the David H. Koch theatre for a matinee performance of Seance On A Sunday Afternoon. I love how surprisingly casual some events in New York City can be – there aren’t many cities where I’d even consider wearing jeans to an opera, but in NYC it’s pretty normal for a weekend matinee – especially when you’re attending solo. I do notice that people over 60 or so – men especially, are often in slacks and jackets, which is super spiffy.
